Clean Up After Yourself
Everyone sweats, that’s just a fact. While most people can accept that, what they can’t accept is sitting down on a machine and feeling another person’s sweat seep into their clothing. Do the appropriate thing and wipe down the machine after you use it.
Keep It Down
People enjoy being in their own world at the gym, that’s why most wear headphones and keep to themselves. When one person’s workout makes it sound like they are returning serves at Wimbledon, it ruins it for everyone. Not even in-ear headphones can keep out grunts caused by a “look at me” attitude, so try to be respectful of others when you’re really putting in work. This goes for headphone volume too – no one should have to be subjected to dubstep for their entire workout unless they choose to be.
There used to be a time when gyms didn’t have to put “time limit” sign on every machine. Then, people started to act selfishly and sit there until they completed their fifteen sets of inner thigh squeezes, oblivious to the people waiting. So let’s go back to that simpler time, when people were allowed to work in and machines didn’t stay occupied for hours at a time.
Don't Hog The Weights
This obviously only pertains to the free weight area, but please, if you are strong enough to lift and use the weight, you should be strong enough to put it back. There is nothing more frustrating than having to stop your workout to try and find the matching dumbbell that somebody left in the stretching room at the other end of the gym. Have the decency to pick up after yourself, doing so is contagious.
Keep The Flirting OUTSIDE
There are few things more awkward to watch than someone trying to hit on a member of the opposite sex when the other party is completely uninterested. What makes it even worse is when the person doing the flirting is oblivious to it. So just don’t. People go to the gym to look good outside of it and almost no one finds a person covered in sweat attractive, so do everyone a favor and hold off until you exit the premises.
That’s it, five simple steps to help you achieve proper gym etiquette. Following these will guarantee people won’t groan when they see you enter the gym.
